There are a lot of things you will need to consider before heading off on a camping trip. We all know we were all Newbies at one stage. If you free camp, you get to meet so many lovely travelers from all over Australia. My first trip back in 2012 was when I travelled in our Toyota HiAce Hi top campervan to Nelson Bay. We didn't travel too far so we could determine what we needed and forgot to pack.... Yes, I can't believe I forgot plates and cutlery.
Once you have worked out what you will need to take as you do have limited space. I normally say if you haven't used it then just take it out when you get home. Always make notes with what is needed or taken out, what works or doesn't for you.
When you arrive at a free camp and don't know where to park up, always think ahead with solar, do you need the sun to charge your batteries, look at where the sun will be in the afternoon, maybe you need to park somewhere you can get direct sunlight throughout the day. If you have not got a solar set up and are using a generator to charge your batteries, then be mindful with where you park up. A lot of campers are fully off grid therefore don't like to hear generators. If you are a camper with a generator, then I highly suggest parking away from others. Nine times out of ten you will find the other campers can't hear the generator, hours of operation in most places are 8am - 8pm.
I'm pretty sure just about everyone has camped in a tent. What a great way to involve the kids in family time.
